I spent last Thursday and Friday at the Long Beach Museum of Art, working on the installation of the two pieces of mine (the Odyssey and Metamorphoses pieces) that are included in the show there that opens this weekend. The staff there are fantastic - so friendly and funny and easy to deal with, and great at what they do, with all kinds of musical and artistic talents outside of their work there too. They had a kooky wild idea for the installation of the 30-plus foot long Metamorphoses piece that I haven’t even yet seen, as we hadn’t gotten that far, even after two days of installation. I can’t wait to see how it turned out! The piece that did get put up, “Sing in me Muse, and help me tell the story.....” (The Odyssey) looks great. Really really great. I am so pleased. I was underwhelmed with how it looked in the Encinitas Library show, and so I did some re-thinking and re-working, some brainstorming with both Xavier (my husband) and with Brooks, the preparator at LBMA, and finally forked out some $600 to Ridout Plastics (in San Diego - expensive, but great, great service!!!) to have two 8-foot diameter plexi circles cut to back the piece. It made a world of difference and I am really glad to have made the change. Because of the giant plexi pieces, I had to rent a giant truck to get the pieces to the museum, a fact which will probably amuse anyone who knows me well, as I hate - HATE - to drive. Anyway, here are some photos from the big days! Thank you, by the way, to Xavier for taking a day off to keep the kiddos the first day , to my son Hugo’s awesome preschool for letting him hang out a bit later than normal on the second day, and to my friend Rebecca for helping out by watching little miss Esmé the second day. It takes a village!
