Stuart Murdoch, frontman for Belle & Sebastian, is one of the celebrities whose thumbprint portrait is included in the celebrity thumbprint auction & exhibition event entitled “Under No One’s Thumb” that I’m developing, aimed at raising awareness about the horrific problem of human trafficking, specifically sex slavery and child sexual exploitation.  Part of the proceeds from the auction, which will happen mid-2011, will be donated to organizations fighting the problem and working to help survivors, and the remainder will be used to fund an installation project entitled “taken”, which is a large-scale installation project aimed at informing people about the problem, and hopefully moving viewers to act as modern-day abolitionists.  I am very grateful for Stuart’s participation!  His thumbprint portrait is made up of bits of text and imagery from favorite cd’s, books, films and artwork that are favorites of his.
