the missing peace

installation view at the photographic resource center in boston, ma

front-lit

paper quilt constructed of three layers - two white, with candle flame images sandwiched between - of squares approximately 1 1/2” in size.  the piece appears solid white when lit from the front, and the flames become visible only when the piece is backlit.  this piece was included in two 9/11 memorial exhibitions - one at the photographic resource center in boston, and the other at the museum of photographic arts in balboa park in san diego.  the piece is made up of 3,062 candle flame images, one for each of the people who lost their life on that day.  the title comes from the edwidge danticat story by the same name, from the book of short stories “krik? krak!”, which inspired the piece.
