installation of approximately 200 paper butterflies constructed from white paper cut from magazine pages and embellished with polka-dots cut from images of cosmetics - also from magazine pages. the butterflies are two layers thick, hand-sewn, laminated and pinned to the wall. the title comes from the chapter entitled “the whiteness of the whale” in moby dick.
