the wind-up bird chronicle (*updates!*)

So I’ll be doing little status reports here on the current work-in-progress (click here for the original blog post describing the idea behind the piece), which I’m working on for the big show at the Eric Phleger Gallery in September!  I started the piece before the big trip to France, and thought I’d work on it while there.   However, rolling up the piece to carry it there caused some irreparable damage.  Ugh, yes?  Well, one might think so, but like so many things, what appeared to be a catastrophe turned out to be a positive thing, because it made me see that the piece really needed to be re-done from the start, as I’d ended up somehow with a ridiculously thick and opaque pile-up of tape in the center of the first ‘draft’ that I had tried to convince myself was good but really was not.  SO.  I re-started the piece upon returning home and to the studio and it’s looking pretty cool, if I say so myself......
